You don't have to go very far for the big fish. Shane Thibodaux landed this huge Red Snapper within 15 miles of Grand Isle.

Capt. Shane Thibodaux was raised by a large family of outdoorsmen and has been running the bayous and marshes of South Louisiana since he was a boy. He is a fourth-generation butcher, the son of Anita Bourgeois and George Thibodaux. Like most of the Bourgeois family, he grew up in and around the family business.

As a kid, Bourgeois Meat Market was his "daycare" during summers and holidays while his parents were at work. In high school, he worked part-time after school and during the summers, gaining an early understanding of hard work and responsibility.

After graduating, Shane joined the U.S. Marine Corps, where he spent the next decade developing leadership and life skills that still shape him today. He served two years in Pohang, South Korea as an Aviation Ordnance Technician, followed by three years as a U.S. Embassy Security Guard assigned to the American Embassies in Port-au-Prince, Haiti; Budapest, Hungary; and Algiers, Algeria. His active duty service was followed by an additional three years of reserve service as a Marine Air Ground Task Force Planner.

Returning home in 2014, he teamed up with his cousin Beau Bourgeois to help expand the family meat business. He spent the next several years learning from Beau and Donald to prepare for the opening of a second location. With a successful grand opening in 2023, Shane now manages the original Market in Thibodaux while Beau builds the new chapter in Gray. His passions within the company include leadership, marketing, butchery, and customer service.

Meanwhile, his passion for fishing grew stronger. What started with solo runs in his 17-foot Sea Chaser chasing red snapper, mangroves, and cobia evolved, over the next 10 years, into a calling to share the incredible resources of the Gulf with others. In 2025 that calling came to life with American Gulf Fishing Charters, offering offshore trips out of Grand Isle and Fourchon, Louisiana.

Shane and his wife Brittany live in Thibodaux with their three children. Outside of work, Shane is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt and instructor at Next Generation Martial Arts in Thibodaux. On the weekends, if he is not offshore, you will find him hunting, spearfishing, freediving, cooking or playing music. He is always chasing adventure and time well spent with family.
